High Risk Pregnancy specialist in Nagpur
A high-risk pregnancy does not necessarily mean that your pregnancy will be the more difficult and challenging than a high-risk pregnancy. However, it does sometimes mean that you will need to the consult a maternal-fetal medicine specialist or undergo more monitoring than someone with a high-risk pregnancy.
What is considered a high-risk pregnancy?
If your pregnancy is high-risk, you may need extra care and attention to ensure your pregnancy and delivery are successful. Some of the most common causes of the high-risk pregnancy are:
- Advanced maternal age (particularly in the people older than 40).
- Multiple gestations (pregnant with twins, triplets and more).
- Previous miscarriages or stillbirths.
- Family history of genetic disorders.
- History of pregnancy complications such as the preeclampsia, preterm labor and gestational diabetes.
- You have a serious health condition like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, inflammatory bowel disease or an autoimmune disorder.
Just because your pregnancy is high-risk doesn’t mean there’s a problem with the fetus and that your pregnancy is dangerous. It means you’ll get closer monitoring because there’s a slightly higher risk of the problem.
Will all my future pregnancies be high risk?
Having one high-risk pregnancy does not mean that all your future pregnancies will be the deemed to high risk as well. You may have a fetal complication occur in the one pregnancy that wouldn’t in another, or certain health conditions may change over time.
However, if you have had the pregnancy that ended in the preterm delivery, you are at greater risk of having preterm labor during your next pregnancy. If this occurs, your obstetric provider will manage your pregnancy using the medication, or a maternal-fetal medicine specialist will monitor your cervical length with ultrasound surveillance.
Ultimately, the most important thing to the remember about having a high-risk pregnancy is that your maternal-fetal medicine specialist or Ob/Gyn have the knowledge and experience required to keep you and your baby as the healthy as possible.
